“If you want them to listen to what you say, talk their language” Dr. Taibi Kahler
The Process Communication Model is based upon two basic principles: For the effectiveness of the message, the way we say something (Process) is more important that what we say (Content) and although each individual is unique, we all have six characteristics in common.
Each of us has a specific combination of certain characteristics that shows our unique personality and each personality communicates differently. Knowing this gives us useful and precise tools for motivation, understanding the perceptual framework of others, managing stress behaviours etc. This understanding greatly improves our communication skills, our ability to motivate others, our sales skills and our general management effectiveness as well as improving our interpersonal relationships. It is also a key path to building an effective team and managing the continuity of the team’s performance.
Dr. Taibi Kahler was awarded the prestigious Eric Berne Scientific Award for his outstanding work in developing the model. This material was used by NASA from 1978 until 1996 for recruitment, selection and communication training, of Astronauts.
Professional effectiveness in any role within an organization requires skills in communication, at least as much as technical expertise. For effective communication we need an ability to communicate with all kinds of people, e.g. with colleagues, managers and direct reports as well as customers, friends and outside of work, with family.
